Large, diverse compound libraries are an essential requisite in target-based drug development.
Scientists from Mercachem and Leiden University Medical Center have developed a rapid, efficient microwave-assisted synthesis of 3-amino-β-lactams.
“Within the European Lead Factory (ELF) consortium, we aim to develop libraries that have high molecular complexity and are synthesized from easily accessible building blocks in a minimum number of steps. In this paper, we present a scaffold that can be synthesized in a single step,” explains Rik Megens, Group Leader of the Parallel Chemistry Department.
Joyce van den Heuvel, Scientist adds: “Synthesized β-lactams were isolated in reasonable yields and excellent diastereoselectivity. A library of 263 compounds was efficiently produced using this optimized methodology”.
