Natural Products are a rich source of inspiration for discovery and medicinal chemists in academia and industry.
For one of our clients we have embarked on a challenging approach towards the discovery and development of novel in-vivo active and IP-free compounds using two readily available natural products.
During the first stage of this project, we designed compounds by breaking chemical bonds and constructing novel chemical bonds using any synthetic chemistry tool-kit. A large number of new building blocks was designed using this so-called “complexity-to-diversity” method.
By efficient and flexible interplay between several of our departments, route validation, scaffold scale-up, library synthesis, and HPLC purification were achieved. We produced a significant number of compound libraries in a very short timeframe. In-vitro and phenotypic screening with a selected biology partner ultimately resulted in a number of patent filings for “therapeutic compounds for pain and synthesis thereof”!
